The uncomfortable truth

Dog Poo Is Harming Our Environment

While it's easy to think it's fine for dog poo to be left in nature, it actually damages ecosystems, harms wildlife and spreads disease.

Pet Impact is working with park rangers, dog owners and local communities to change habits, bust myths and make our walks cleaner - for everyone.

Vets Urge All Dog Owners to Bag it & Bin it

Why Bag It & Bin It?

Dog Ownership Comes with a Responsibility to Nature

Our dogs' poo cannot be compared to that of wild animals, like foxes or badgers.

Our dogs are not a "natural" part of the ecosystem and therefore their poo does not belong in our environment.

The Hidden Dangers of Leaving Dog Poo

Dog Poo Spreads Disease

Affecting other dogs, wildlife, farm animals & people

Dog Poo Kills insects & wildlife

By introducing excess nutrients to an environment & disrupting the natural balance

Dog Poo Damages delicate ecosystems

As medications (including routinely used flea and worming ones) can be excreted via faeces

Do Not Stick & flick

This message is outdated and has been removed by national parks and forestry bodies.

We’ve heard from concerned park rangers, affected farmers and frustrated walkers.

The problem is real - but solvable. And that’s what this campaign is all about.

How pet impact is helping

As a sustainable pet care brand, we’re here to also support better habits that create a holistic sustainable future for pets, people and our planet.

We’ve teamed up with national organisations like [insert organisations here] and local dog owner groups to:

  • Educate dog owners about the true risks of uncollected poo
  • Create easy-to-share digital materials and a free to access resource tool-kit on the topic
  • Design clean, printable signs and posters for dog-friendly spaces
  • Campaign for updated messaging around “Bag it and Bin it”

This is just the beginning — and we’d love to work with more councils, community groups, and conservation organisations.

Tools to Help You Educate and Encourage Responsible Dog Walking

Get Involved

We’ve created a free, ready-to-use resource pack to help national parks, councils, rangers, dog groups, pet stores, vets and even cafés make this message stick.

Whether you’re organising an event, managing a trail, or running a doggy day care - these tools are here to support your work.

FAQ

What is the purpose of this campaign?

With the continued increase in dog ownership, there seems to also be a rise in uncollected dog poo in natural spaces. We've heard from concerned dog owners, national park rangers, farmers and environmentalists - people are leaving their dog's poo behind.
Our surveys indicate that there is still a very prevalent belief that it is fine to leave dog poo in nature, as the poo is "natural".

We believe this misconception is feeding the problem of dog faeces polluting our environment.

This campaign aims to hence raise awareness around the fact that dog poo needs to be picked up regardless of where you are, as it isn't just a case of "getting it out of people's way" - there are much deeper and intricate negative effects of dog poo left in the environment.

Can anyone get involved?

Absolutely! If you believe that we, as dog owners, hold a responsibility to take care of nature, then we want you onboard.

How can I help as an individual?

Simply spreading the message or sharing this webpage to your friends and family is a great way to start! Bring it up as a conversation topic and you might find that many people you know hold the misbelief that it's ok to leave dog poo in nature!

Please also follow us on social media and share our posts relating to this campaign.

If you'd like to do more, you can approach your local council or pet businesses in your area (pet stores, dog friendly cafes or pubs, groomers and vets), to suggest they take part in this campaign.
There is a free resource toolkit accessible from this page, where they can download posters and access other material to share.

Have questions or suggestions for what else we could do together? Please get in touch - we'd love to hear from you.

How can I help as a business, charity or organisation?

Posters can be placed in your business premise, car park, etc. (if you have a physical location).
